What do we get up to?

Every year, our team members from various backgrounds at the university take on the challenge of designing a functional car, while adhering to the competition’s rules. Points are awarded not only for designing a fast and agile car, but also one that is innovative, cost effective and well presented.
CAD Design

All of our cars start off as CAD drawings on the computer. We work collaboratively so all of our students can design their parts side-by-side.

Manufacturing

From welding and CNC manufacuring, all the way through to composities production, the manufacturing team works to produce consistent, high quality parts that can take our cars to victory.

Business

From running the teams social media channels, to securing new sponsorships and helping existing sponsorships flourish, the business team holds a crucial role in the success of the team.

CFD

Our Aerodynamics team uses multiple CFD programs to iterate through package concepts and part designs to design an efficient aero package that keeps our car glued to the road.

On-track Testing

Once our car is built, we go through rigourous testing procedures, to test the limits of both the car and our drivers. This is our chance to prove our designs in a low-pressure environment before the competition in december.

Competing

At the end of each year, we trek down to Winton, Victoria to compete against the best teams from all around Australia and the world! Other notable competitions include FS:Sydney and the Queensland Student Shootout.

Autonomous Vehicle Development

Autonomous - an all new frontier

UQ Racing has been in the process of developing an autonomous vehicle (AV) for the Formula Student competition. Since 2020, we have been making great progress in the fields of simulation, actuation and sensor processing. Our team’s goal for 2022 is to have the technical foundations for our autonomous vehicle, laying the groundwork for future developments involving more advanced perception and path planning.
